Mozart surprised his family when at the age of three he started playing chords on the clavier (a type of piano).

By the time he was five, Mozart was already composing music on the clavier, which his father would write down for him. His next accomplishment was to produce two amazing operas - The Marriage of Figaro and Don Giovanni - both of which were incredibly successful. Mozart’s father sadly did not get to witness this success however, as he died in May 1787. Finally, Mozart was offered a job for a true Royal - Emperor Joseph II, who had wanted to pay him the huge sum for the one-off concert a number of years before. It wasn’t a full-time job, but it did help to pay the bills. Depression Sets In Soon after he gained his commission with Joseph II, the Austro-Turkish war began, this meant that nobility were putting less money into the arts and more into supporting their troops.
