Use References Draw Dynamic Action More than having someone just swinging a sword, heroic fantasy is full of swashbuckling action and derring-do. Draw your character leaping in the air. Based on the velocity of the leap and the weight of the leaper this is a strategic attack against a much larger opponent. Fill a sketchbook with drawings of people in a fencing or Kendo club. Look at the stances and postures. Note how the legs and weapons move. Pause a video or DVD during a particularly well-done battle scene, then quickly sketch the poses in each frame until you find the most dynamic way to show that action in one image.
