If a product isn’t doing well, sometimes I just move it and it does really well. You move it to the front of the store, or sometimes you do something simple—I’d take a T-shirt that is hanging and fold it. Suddenly that T-shirt would sell much better. Eventually, I opened my own boutique called Adelita. I’m working with my mother now to design my own clothes. I’m designing these tank tops— embellishing them, adding trim and buttons. My mother is teaching me how to do it by hand. All these clothes are going to be one of a kind.
Megan R. 4 Sean: I always get my colors from the concept, so it’s pretty flexible. If I want to go for a crazy theme, I pick bright colors. But I do have my favorite colors, which kiDs ask, fashion Designers answer are brown and gray, so I always try to put them into my new designs. For Tommy Bahama, I might put sand down or a bamboo mat to give a feel you’re at the beach. Then I lay the clothes down on top of that. I also work with models. I like to dote over the models. They put themselves out there in front of the camera, so I treat them very well. You have to be very social to be a stylist and ready for anything. Sometimes I’m working in a cubicle with no frills; other times the shoot is catered and on the beach. The hardest part is meeting new clients and proving yourself all over again.
