These PRPs control the general conditions in the food handling or production environment that assure overall safety and compliance of the food being handled with regulatory, industry, and customer norms and requirements. Other programs not previously mentioned include GMPs, Cleaning and Housekeeping, Consumer Complaints Management, Allergen Management, and an Analytical (Testing) Program, which would include defined sampling plans and protocols. All of these programs must be structured in a manner that allows them to be verified and validated, as well as easily introduced to new team members as part of their orientation and training program.

It is therefore imperative that firms must ensure that they have adequate PRPs in place to eliminate the likelihood of foreign matter ending up in their product. An example of the structure of an effective PRP is given later on in the chapter and the implementation of PRPs is discussed in several of the case studies in this book.
