It can be taken completely off, or just moved until it exposes the screw covered by the sight slide, near the scale marker. Remove both of the mounting screws, the short one inside the slide track, and the longer one in the forward portion of the sight, and take off the sight base toward the right. Further disassembly of the rear sight is not recommended in normal takedown. The magazine catch is tempered to be its own spring, and is mounted on the underside of the receiver by two forward side projections which are slid into recesses on each side.
The round-wire nut tension spring is mounted in the rear of the cocking piece and is easily taken out toward the rear. To remove the safety from the bolt sleeve, turn the lever up to central position and use a drift punch against the front tip of its pivot shaft, as shown, to nudge it out toward the rear. Caution: As the small plunger and spring inside the safety-lever clear the rear top of the sleeve, they will be released downward. Restrain them, and take care they aren’t lost. A vertical pin on the left side of the bolt sleeve retains the lock plunger and its spring.
This can usually be done without tools. When replacing the ejector in the bolt head, use a very small screwdriver to depress the internal spring while the pin is driven back into place, to avoid possible damage to the spring. When replacing the bolt head, remember that this must be done before the final turn of the bolt sleeve at the rear. Place the bolt head in position; then complete the turn of the bolt sleeve and allow the bolt lock to snap into its notch. When the bolt is inserted into the receiver, the bolt stop must be in its open position and the bolt lug must be at the top.
