Langton argues that things in themselves are substances qua bearers of intrinsic properties (1998: 20), whereas phenomena are their relational or extrinsic properties, thereby circumventing any reference to the conditions of sensibility or cognition, which on Langton’s reading are only indirectly related to the unknowability thesis.
